簡介:

Quantum mechanics was discovered more than a century ago but we are still trying to explore the full depth of its implication. Originally quantum mechanics was developed to explain the behavior of microscopic particles. Nowadays we observe and manipulate quantum phenomena in mesoscopic materials like superconductors. It is also expected that quantum mechanics play a fundamental role in describing astronomical obejcts like the black holes. This talk gives a brief introduction to the fore-front of quantum research, discussing we already know, what we can already do and what are the open questions and challenges.

量子力學在一個世紀以前就被發現,但我們至今仍努力探索其所有意涵的深層意義。最初,量子力學被發展出來解釋微觀粒子的行為。如今,我們觀察並操縱超導體等介觀材料中的量子現象。人們也預期量子力學在描述黑洞等天文物體方面發揮基礎作用。

本次演講簡要介紹了量子研究的最新進展,討論我們已經知道的、可以做到的事情以及有哪些懸而未決的問題和挑戰。

經歷: 

Xie Chen is the Eddleman Professor of Theoretical Physics at the California Institute of Technology. Dr. Chen obtained her Ph.D. degree from MIT in 2012 and was a Miller research fellow at the University of California, Berkeley before joining Caltech in 2014. Dr. Chen is a condensed matter theorist studying emergent phenomena in strongly interacting quantum many-body systems. She received the New Horizons in Physics Prize from the Breakthrough Foundation in 2020 and was named a Simons Investigator in 2021.

陳諧是加州理工學院理論物理系的艾德曼教授(Eddleman Professor)。陳博士於 2012 年獲得麻省理工學院的博士學位,並在 2014 年加入加州理工學院之前,擔任加州大學伯克利分校的米勒研究員(Miller research)。陳博士是一位凝聚態理論物理學家,研究強相互作用量子多體系統的新興現象。她於 2020 年獲得科學突破基金會頒發的物理學新視野獎,並於 2021 年被任命為西蒙斯研究員(Simons Investigator)。
